FISHING
Natimuk Lake FORGET IT - ITS DRY!!! (Oct 2000 - March 2002)
To quote from Gary Knight's handy guide to Fishing Wimmera Waters
"few inland areas boast the variety of fish and excellent fishing available in the Wimmera Region of Victoria."
Of course, currently
after a series of dry years many of the lakes of the Wimmera have dried up and it will take some time for fish stocks to build up again. At the time of writing (Feb 2000) the Wimmera has stopped running and it is possible to walk across Natimuk Lake.
Natimuk, with its accomodation and cafes, is the ideal
place to stay for fishing in the Wimmera. Not only is the township close to Natimuk Lake (redfin) and the Wimmera River ( redfin, yellow belly, tench, catfish and Murray cod) but other lakes like Toolondo (home of the famous fighting browns) and the picturesque Rocklands (trout and redfin) are only a short drive away. Further west there are a number of lakes including Charlegrark (Murray Cod) and Lake Wallace (Rainbow and Brown Trout).

The area also boasts superb yabbying in most the streams, dams and lakes.
An inland fishing license is necessary for all Wimmera fishing, including yabbying and anglers are asked to respect size limits.
